We're thankful for our new dining table! Now we can all eat at the table at the same time and we have room to put food on the table....and we have room for guests. WELCOME!!
This night we were eating Jeannette's yummy Beef-zucchini-tomato bake. She's doing a great job cooking in Africa.
This beautiful table and chairs were all made with hand tools by our new friend Sospeter. He works in this humble little carpenter shop in town...
Next up....a desk.

Fish stomachs for China
So I walked to the market to buy some bananas and I saw this...
This family is drying fish stomachs (or intestines, I wasn't sure about the Swahili). They stretch the stomach over a stick and let it dry in the sun. Then they will sell the stomachs to China for $143/kilo. I asked what the Chinese do with the stomachs but this family had no idea.
Welcome to Tanzania!

Behold, the mighty swarm of lake flies
On our second night in Musoma, we were warmly greeted by an invasion of "lake flies." Remember the plague of flies in Egypt....just sayin'.
This swarm of tiny flies appears mysteriously out over Lake Victoria.
It looks like smoke on the water, but then the wind blows it closer to land.
These flies cover everything. They don't bite, they don't sting, the just fly into your mouth and nose and ears and eyes and clothes and hair and....you get the idea. Then, after a couple days, they die. That's it.
We learned later that lake flies are attracted to light. The trick is to turn off all the lights.
Here's our kids' first impression of lake flies...
